TECHNICAL AND CREW AREAS

PLANET NINE

“The core idea was to build the best of Europe: we wanted German machinery combined with an Italian build.”
The ultimate expression of yachting capability, PLANET NINE, designed by industry titan Tim Heywood, is recognized as one of the world's most exciting explorer yachts.
Delivered in 2018 by Admiral, outwardly PLANET NINE is a fortress of a yacht, ice-classed, with excellent seakeeping, speed and range. Inside, she is welcoming and elegant, her comfortable living areas by the inimitable Tino Zervudachi are designed to be enjoyed at any latitude and in any weather. Fitz built the highly customized interior which accommodates up to 16 guests in eight large staterooms including two master staterooms on a private owners’ deck.
PLANET NINE’s capability is legendary. Her commercially rated helipad, refueling system and hangar built for an Agusta Grand A109 or similar helicopter provide a further dimension to her outstanding performance and capability. When the on-board helicopter is garaged, she can be used for additional “touch and go” flights. Her “all-weather fleet” of toys and tenders includes two 10m custom-built Rupert RIBs, ideal for scouting, comfortable and safe for guests.
THE STORY

“What other occupations rank up there with cruising the world on a yacht in your experience?”
“None.”
Inspired by two exceptional yachts, Amazon Express and Maupiti, PLANET NINE’s experienced owner took his time to refine and improve the original concepts with input from the global heavyweights Heywood and Zervudachi. The result is as unusual as it is appealing.
A huge volume “go anywhere” yacht, she was conceived as a home away from home for leisurely living, rather than as a showpiece. “The best part about it is one entire deck is dedicated to the owner with two staterooms, a huge library and a private balcony”. PLANET NINE can accommodate a party of 16 or a couple with equal ease and at any latitude. Technically “she has incredible at anchor stability so she hardly rolls at all even in heavy seas. She is ice classed, very quiet, with an extremely well-designed hull, unique layout and of course, huge tenders and a helicopter”. PLANET NINE’s track record is unique having covered over 120,000 nautical miles in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans as well as Antarctica, since her launch, as well as off-track cruising in lesser known corners of the Mediterranean. There is simply nothing quite like her.

With a production budget reportedly in excess of $200 million – according to The Robb Report - Christopher Nolan didn’t hold back when it came to picking the coolest “props” for his sci-fi thriller. The coolest of them all? Without doubt, the spectacular 240-foot superyacht Planet Nine, which doubled as the lair of Tenet’s Russian bad guy, Andrei Sator, played so despicably well by Kenneth Branagh.
“During the filming there were up to 100 film crew on board at any one time which gives an idea of the scale of the production. It was quite a logistical challenge” – explains Captain Rob Williamson – “Our helicopter was painted in a special temporary paint just for the filming”.
